What is HECO's Customer Grid-Supply Plus (CGS+)?
It is HECO’s current interconnection program for new residential solar customers on Oʻahu. Excess power you send back to the grid is credited at a rate set by the Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission — typically lower than the retail rate you pay. This is exactly why batteries make so much sense in Hawaiʻi: self-consumed power is worth more than exported power.
Do I need a new electrical panel?
Sometimes. If you are on 100-amp service or your panel is older than 25 years, an upgrade may be required, especially if you are also adding a battery or EV charger. We will tell you during the site visit. Because we are also a licensed electrical contractor, we handle the upgrade in-house if needed.
Will solar work during a power outage?
Not by itself. A standard grid-tied solar system shuts off when the grid goes down (a safety requirement). If you want power during outages, you need a battery.
